• Single-mode fiber optic cabling has a small core designed to allow one mode of light to pass through, this reflects light less often, lowers attenuation and allows signals to travel longer distances.
• Multi-mode fiber optic cabling has a larger core that is designed to allow multiple modes of light to pass through it allowing an increase in dispersion, attenuation, and for more light reflections. The signal will unfortunately be reduced over longer distances and is not ideal for larger fiber optic networks.

• Mechanical Splicing is typically used for splicing multi-mode fiber optic cabling and for temporary restoration projects.
• Fusion Splicing is the most commonly used type of splicing and provides the lowest possible loss post-splicing and it also provides the least reflectance.
